WELCOME TO THE DHS LIBRARY

The mission of the Denison ISD Libraries is to provide a warm, safe, and positive environment for students to learn, grow, and explore. We will promote and foster a love for reading while preparing students with information literacy skills that will help prepare them to be independent learners and thinkers for the 21st century. We provide a variety of up-to-date materials to support and enrich the education of all our students, as well as support the curriculum of our teachers. Our goal is to promote a love of reading.

Library Information

Circulation Policies & Procedures

Students with internet access may locate, preview, hold and renew all print and electronic resources thru the online library card catalog (click on the name here or go to the LIBRARY HOME page and click on the icon) FOLLETT DESTINY. Students can also search for books by title, author, or series.

All library materials must be checked out at the circulation desk by a Library Staff Member.
Students must know their ID number to check out materials.
To return borrowed materials, students may use the drop box that is located at the circulation desk or the cafeteria.
Materials used in the library may be returned to the circulation desk. To avoid shelving errors, students should not return books directly to the shelf.

Teacher Resources

LIBRARY RESERVATIONS Please sign up for the library and Professional Development room times in advance with an email.

MATERIALS FOR TEACHER USE Teachers may check out library books and textbooks for extended periods of time for classroom and personal use. All materials are collected at the end of the school year for inventory purposes.

RESOURCES FOR TEACHER USE We have a laminator, CD players and headphones. Please do not send your TA's down to laminate. We have Staff Members that can do that for you.

GROUP LIBRARY TIME Individual students and small groups (2-3 students) can be sent to the library but please check with Mrs. Means before they are sent down. The students should bring a PASS with them that has the student's and teacher's names. There should be times noted for when the students left the classroom and when they are expected to return.

SUPERVISION Teachers are required to supervise their classes in the library.

SUBSTITUES Please try not to schedule a library day when you know you will be absent. Substitutes should not send students to the library without prior authorization from library staff.

Click avatar near the top of the screen (beside your name)
In the menu, click Log into Career Cruising
Students are alerted that any new work they do in Career Cruising will not be reflected in Xello. Once they confirm they have read the alert, Career Cruising will open in a new tab and students will automatically be logged in to their account.

DHS has purchased a wide variety of Ebooks and audiobooks.

Here are the instructions how to access them from Destiny Discover

From any web browser, go to destinydiscover.com or download the free Destiny Discover app from your mobile device.
Select the state from the Location drop-down menu
In the School field, enter the first few letters of your school’s name. When Denison High School appears in the suggestions, select it.
Click Log In!
Enter your Username and Password and then click Submit.

If you are having trouble logging in or need your username and password, please see Mrs. Rogers for assistance.

We believe that the library is a staple in not only the literacy life of a student, but also their all around education. The library should be a space where students feel welcomed and free to broaden their understanding and explore their interests. We will encourage students to read widely from different genres, eras, formats, topics, and perspectives. Because of these beliefs our librarians support free choice and strive to instill a deep love of reading that will stay with a student long after they leave our campuses.
